As part of its commitment to improving the quality of higher education, the Learning Development and Quality Assurance Institute (LP3M) team from Institut Bisnis IT&B North Sumatra conducted a benchmarking visit to LP3M at Malikussaleh University. The activity, held on Thursday (March 6, 2025), focused on the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) and the development of educational quality standards.

Mestika Rija Helti, MM, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit at IT&B, explained that the visit was part of the institution’s efforts to enhance its quality assurance system. “We want to learn from Unimal’s experience in comprehensively implementing SPMI, particularly in measuring quality indicators and preparing accreditation documents,” she stated.

Head of LP3M Unimal, Syamsul Bahri, MSc, in his welcome speech, expressed appreciation for the visit. “We are very open to sharing our experiences in SPMI implementation, especially regarding the monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and the continuous improvement efforts we have undertaken,” he said. He also noted that the discussion covered various aspects of quality assurance, from the preparation of quality documents, evaluation of study program performance, to strategies for facing internal quality audits. “The follow-up plan from this meeting includes collaboration in quality system development, exchange of quality documents, and joint activities in internal quality audits,” he revealed. “This implementation is expected to reflect the commitment of both parties to continuously improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia,” he concluded.

Both institutions also shared their experiences in dealing with the challenges of implementing SPMI at the faculty and study program levels.
