Overview of Accounting Study Program

Accounting opens countless employment in the business world. In a broad sense, Accounting makes senses of numbers which is an important part of any successful business. In IT&B, qualified lecturers will provide the basic of Accounting until the students will eventually able to analyze the numbers in financial statements in which will be useful in any decision making and to be applied when they work.

Mission
  1. To provide quality education and teaching in the field of accounting to produce graduates with excellence, competence, and independence.
  2. To develop and disseminate knowledge and practices in accounting through research activities that benefit the environment and society.
  3. To organize practical activities in the field of accounting that benefit the community to increase productivity, empowerment, and well-being.
  4. To administer the Bachelor of Accounting Study Program based on the principles of good governance.
  5. To enhance and expand collaborations with various institutions, particularly in the Accounting Study Program domestically and internationally, to achieve independence in conducting teaching, research, and community service activities.

Things learn in Accounting Study Program

IT&B equips the students who takes Accounting Study Program in developing strong and professional accounting skills, including communication of information about a company’s operations and finances, problem-solving as well as analytical skills. Several subjects that will be learnt during the program will be Financial Accounting (including Intermediate as well as Advanced Financial Accounting), Cost Management Accounting, Accounting Information System, Auditing, Taxation for Accounting and many others.

Concentrations in Accounting Study Program

Concentration will be chosen by the students in their last semester which is Semester IX, and several concentrations to choose from are as follow:

Financial Accounting

Students will have the chance of learning how to value and analyze a business as well as knowing the issues in financial reporting and analysis.

Auditing

Students will be given the opportunity in practicing the audits that have been learned during the semester in a real company. Starting from planning the audit until completing the audit for the client. Besides that, current auditing issues as well as what affect the quality of an auditor will be discussed in the concentration of Auditing.

Management Accounting

Students will learn the advanced management accounting and knowing how the behavior of employees will affect the accounting being used in the company.

Taxation

Students will study taxation in depth when choosing this concentration where Tax Management and Tax Audit will be taught. Besides that, a brief discussion of the comparison between taxation around the world will be done too

How many accounting subjects that students will study in achieving their degree?
The students will study approximately 20 (twenty) Accounting Subjects excluding the (4) four subjects the students will take when choosing the concentration in the last semester.
What are the career opportunities that students can choose after graduating from the Accounting Study Program?
Students have a wide range of career opportunities to choose from such as:

Accountant, Tax Accountant, Auditor, Internal Auditor, Financial Analyst, Consultant and Financial Planner.

Can the students continue their master degree in overseas after graduating from IT&B?
Students can definitely continue their studies in overseas as many of IT&B Alumnis have eventually continued their Master Degree in Australia, India, UK, etc.

IT&B Accounting Students Intake 2011, Yulie, Cathlin Toinando and Duffin Anggana, were given opportunity to have one full day training at Deloitte, Jakarta, Indonesia (The Top Four Accounting Firm in the world) in March, 2015.

I have completed my undergraduate degree with a major in Accounting at IT & B Campus. It has been a wonderful 3.5 years of my campus life and I have enjoyed being a part of IT&B Campus family.

I choose to study in this particular campus because of English language being the main language offered and taught. I had offers from other universities, but IT& B has a great reputation locally and even nationally. It offers study program that were adapted from the international system.

Studying at IT&B has brought an added value to my personal life. I like the hands-on approach of the courses at IT&B because it has taken my learning beyond theory. I feel that the courses were designed to prepare undergraduates to get into the workforce. My three and a half year experience within accounting has taught me to work with different types of people in group to achieve common goals. Being able to be meet new people with different skills, personalities and experience has always been an exciting factor for me. With the countless number of projects and deadlines, I was given the opportunity to work under pressure and hone up on my time management skills.

I really enjoyed the lecturer – student feedback, the contents of the courses offered. Moreover, the qualified and friendly lecturers were always there to answer and to help me throughout the course. I also like that our lecturers use real-life examples in their teaching. The small class of tutorial classes allowed the use of better learning methods, which also implies better learning environment.

The IT infra-structure is good and the IT staffs are really helpful. Computer labs are always available for students to work on their assignments and studies. The campus has a campus-wide wifi available and it is fully air-conditioned. I feel that this provides a conducive environment for students studying within campus.

My advice to prospective students is that, when you come to IT&B Campus, do not be afraid to venture out and join clubs and societies. You will experience living amongst people from many personalities and make lifelong friends.

IT&B Accounting Study Program has provided with the necessary tools for me to face the professional life. Notions learnt in class are realist and close to what the labour market requires. Today, I am working as a Tax Supervisor and I am proud to be a part of IT&B accounting family and it was the best decision I have made so far.

In today’s competitive environment, it is not sufficient to become one of the best in our field. Intellectually education is completely important to climb the ladder of success. For education in Medan, IT&B Campus is one of the best choice to choose. IT&B has a good reputation because of its competent lecturers, facilities as well as it provides business concentration. Because of that, I chose accounting major for my study and I chose Auditing Concentration which is indeed useful for my work as internal auditor at Permata Hijau Group (PHG). It was more than just a great study experience that IT&B Campus left me.  IT&B Campus not only helps develop academic skills for their students, but also they helped us gain life-long practical knowledge that we could all benefit from in the future.

Classes in IT&B Campus are rather small which allows me a fair amount of one on one time with the lecturers. This means a lot to me since I enjoy asking questions and digging deeper into the subject content. And, I love the fact that IT&B educators have so much experience behind their knowledge. The support you receive from teaching staff is great; they are always there to help you achieve the best you possibly can.

People always wonder about the choices they make and where the turning point in their life is. For me, I am sure that enrolling into IT&B Campus was a critical point in my life where I grew a lot as a person. I would highly recommend studying at IT&B Campus because it is a lot more intimate than larger scale universities.
